Parenting with Scripture
Someone introduced a great book to me. I am going to share different scriptures each week. I hope it will be a tool to help you share scripture with your children.
This week we will look at ANGER:
n. The strong feeling of being very annoyed.
Proverbs 37:8a Refrain from anger and turn away from wrath.
James 1:19-20 My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.
Discussion:
Think of a recent time you were angry.
—Was it really worth getting angry?
—How could you handle it differently?
—What does anger accomplish?
Here are some methods to calm anger (ask your child to come up with his own):
Psalm 37:8 Politely walk away from the situation until you have had time to calm down.
James 1:19-20 Say a prayer over the situation, even if you only have a moment. Ask God to help you control your anger and deal with the situation in a reasonable manner.
Take Action:
Challenge each other (parent and child) to use one or both of the above methods this week.
After each situation, discuss how you did and what you could do better.
